Multiple Burglaries Under Investigation

Tampa Police report that lots of doors and windows were broken over the past week as thieves walked out with electronics, jewelry and even children's toys.

Recent reports from Tampa Police District 2:

Aug. 19

  • A burglary was reported at the 8200 block of North Marks Street. Reported taken were: four Panasonic televisions, four DVD players, a microwave, children’s toys and jewelry.
  • A burglary was reported at the 8600 block of North 13th Street. The culprit entered through the rear bedroom window. A glass jar with about $10 in change was taken.
  • A burglary was reported at the 6900 block of North Orleans Avenue. Reported taken were: a television and a laptop computer. The television was recovered in the back yard. The laptop was found under a neighboring house, along with a .22 caliber revolver. Four suspects were taken into custody for questioning.
  • K9 Audio reported a burglary at the 6800 block of North Nebraska Avenue. The culprit carved a 2-foot wide hole in a concrete wall in the back of the building that led to a storage room. No alarm was triggered. Reported stolen was: six 10-inch speakers, twelve 12-inch speakers and two amplifiers.

A commercial burglary was reported at the 1200 block of East Hillsborough Avenue. The culprits smashed through glass, broke two surveillance cameras inside and tried unsuccessfully to pry open the business’ office door. Nothing was taken.

  • Burglaries were reported at Ebony Fashions, Ebony Beauty Supply and The Speaker Exchange at 1248 E. Hillsborough Ave. Surveillance video showed the same suspect forcibly enter the businesses. He was spotted walking down the street by an officer and was arrested after being positively identified by his distinctive shirt and by his aunt and girlfriend as the man in the video. He also had a laptop air card that was reported stolen from one of the businesses.
  • An attempted vehicle theft was reported at the 3200 block of East Elm Street. The culprit unlocked the passenger side door with a coat hanger and damaged the steering column. Loose coins and CDs were taken. A hammer left at the scene was processed for fingerprints.

Aug. 22

  • Between 2:30 and 4 a.m., someone entered into a vehicle at the 3100 block of East Elm Street. The culprit broke open the steering column in an attempt to start it but was unsuccessful.
  • A break-in was reported at the 1400 block of West Humphrey Avenue. Someone kicked in the back door, but no items appeared to have been taken.
  • An shoplifting arrest was made at Beall’s Outlet at 8851 N. Florida Ave. The suspect was confronted by store security and kicked, punched and tried to hit the security officer with a backpack.
  • A green ATV was stolen from a front yard at the 8100 block of North Dakota Street. The victim could not provide a tag number or vehicle identification number for the Army green vehicle.
  • A flat screen television was reported stolen from a residence at the 8300 block of North Newport St. The back and front doors appeared kicked in and a sneaker impression was on both doors.
  • During the early morning hours, Tampa Police served a search warrant at a home at the 8500 block of North Mulberry Street. After the search was concluded, the occupants were arrested on a multitude of charges and taken to jail. At about 11:30 p.m., the home was locked up by representatives of the landlord and friends of the arrested tenant. They also turned off all lights. At about 12:40 a.m. on Aug. 23, a neighbor saw lights inside the home being turned on and off and saw several men carrying leaving out of the south door with items. They went to the backyard and delayed the men. The suspects ran away as officers arrived. Police found that the southwest window of the home was open. The south door was closed but unlocked. Police found four car tire rims valued at $5,000 on the ground in the backyard as if they had been discarded during the escape of the suspects. The people who had locked up the house were sure the rims had been inside when they had secured the home. One of the suspects returned to the scene as if he were trying to find out what had happened. The witness who saw the men run identified him and he was arrested.

Aug. 23

  • During a torrential downpour, a victim was pushed off his bicycle and it was stolen at the corner of 15th Street and Powhatan Avenue. The suspect was described as a vagrant white male about 50 years old. He had long gray hair and wore a red shirt and blue pants. BMX style bile is gray and white with a “Floval Flyer” sticker on it. The culprit rode the bike west through the alley north of Commanche Avenue and south of Powhatan.
