Head Of Local Church Forged Docs For Criminals, Say Tampa Police

He is the head of the Apostolic Catholic Church on Nebraska Avenue.

A man from a local church is in trouble with Tampa Police after they say he falsified court probation paperwork in exchange for hugs. Tampa police described the hugs, given to an undercover officer, as "intimate" and "groping."

Charles M. Leigh, 64, has been arrested and charged with six counts of falsifying official documents by the Tampa Police Department. Leigh is the head of the Apostolic Catholic Church. The church, located at 7813 North Nebraska Avenue, has no affiliation with the Roman Catholic Diocese of St. Petersburg, police said.

Leigh is referred to as Bishop Charles (Chuck) Leigh on the website for the church.

In June, Tampa Police say they got a tip that Leigh was "falsifying court probation paperwork for defendants ordered to perform community service hours as part of their probation," according to an email from police.

An undercover officer was given 50 community service hours by Leigh, in exchange for "7 intimate hugs," the email states.

Later in June, another undercover officer received false documentation for a total of 50 hours of community service in exchange for 7 hugs, three of which police described as "groping hugs."
