Pasco County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Tuesday morning a man who was accused of running naked through a golf course and later sideswiping a deputy cruiser as he fled police.
Sheriff's office spokesman Doug Tobin said the man had apparently been running around a Tarpon Springs golf course early Tuesday morning.
Pasco deputies then caught up with the naked suspect after he allegedly went into a 7-Eleven store located at U.S. 19 and Flora Avenue in Holiday and assaulted "at least one of the store employees" sometime before 4:30 a.m., according to a press release from Tobin.
The man then got into his GMC Savana and started driving northbound in a southbound lane of U.S. 19.
Deputies gave pursuit and blocked traffic. At some point, the man’s vehicle sideswiped a deputy cruiser, but the deputy was uninjured. Deputies were able to stop the man’s vehicle around 4:25 a.m. in the area of U.S. 19 and Moog Road in Holiday.
The man then ran on foot, and deputies caught up with him and took him into custody.
“The investigation is ongoing but the suspect is expected to face several
charges including battery and aggravated fleeing to elude,” Tobin said. Nobody was injured, Tobin said.
The Sheriff's office does not know why the man was unclothed. The man's name has not been released.
