Fuel Spill Blocks Part of E. Hillsborough Ave.

Tampa Police say a sod truck leaked fuel after something struck its gas tank as it tried to make a U-turn in the 800 block of East Hillsborough Avenue.

Update, 10:23 a.m.: A sod truck leaked fuel onto Hillsborough Avenue on Monday morning, initially shutting down two lanes of East Hillsborough Avenue in Seminole Heights, Tampa Police reported. Hillsborough is now down to one lane westbound between Nebraska and Miami Avenues.

The truck's driver tried to make a U-turn, and something hit his gas tank, causing it to break and leak onto the road.

A tanker truck has hit a diesel pump at an abandoned gas station on Hillsborough Avenue, reportedly spilling more than 100 gallons of fuel and forcing all westbound lanes to be closed, the Tampa Police Department reports.

The crash occurred at 806 E. Hillsborough Ave., officials said in a media release sent shortly before 9 a.m.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area.
