FHP Releases April Checkpoint Locations

Putting off getting that headlight fixed or your driver’s license renewed?

You might want to rethink that strategy.

The Florida Highway Patrol will be on the lookout throughout the month of April for vehicles that have safety equipment defects and drivers who are behind the wheel without valid licenses.

According to FHP spokesman Sgt. Steve Gaskins, the checkpoints will take place throughout Hillsborough and Pasco counties.

“Recognizing the danger presented to the public by defective vehicle equipment, troopers will concentrate their efforts on vehicles being operated with defects such as bad brakes, worn tires and defective lighting equipment,” Gaskins wrote in a media release. “In addition, attention will be directed to drivers who would violate the driver license laws of Florida.”

Gaskins did not release a timetable for the checkpoints in the Tampa area.

The list of checkpoints includes “possible locations (where) checkpoints may be conducted,” he said. “Hours may vary.”

Here is the list of roads FHP may target in the greater Tampa area this month:

• U.S. Highways: 92, 41, Bus 41, and 301
• State Roads: 582, 597, 678, 580, 45, 600, 60, 573, 599, 676, Alt 676, 39, 674, 43, 601, 583, and 685
• County Roads: 587, 576, 579, 581, 672, 640, 574, 574A, 39B, 582A, and 584
• Local Roads: South Mobley Highway, Lutz Lake Fern Road, Wilsky Avenue, Linebaugh Avenue, Van Dyke Road, Barry Road, Livingston Avenue, Crenshaw Lake Road, 127th Avenue, Skipper Road, County Line Road, Davis Road, Trapnell Road, Jap Tucker Road, Lithia Pinecrest Road, Williams Road, Harney Road, Symmes Road, Balm Road, Magnolia Lane, North Taylor Road, Pruett Road, Rhodine Road, McIntosh Road, Turkey Creek Road, and Balm Riverview Road
