Elementary Schools Targeted by Burglars

Snacks were stolen at Sulphur Springs and Van Buren.

Three school break-ins were reported this weekend with thieves stealing snacks and breaking computer equipment, according to Tampa Police.

The first incident was reported at 10:14 a.m. at Sulphur Springs Elementary, 8412 N. 13th St., where officers found someone had smashed through the glass on the side door to the music room. Nothing was taken, but officers did recover fingerprints.

At 7 p.m., police responded to a break-in at Van Buren Middle School, 8715 N. 22nd St. About $25 worth of snacks was missing from one of the rooms.

About 30 minutes later, a third break-in was reported by school security back at Sulphur Springs Elementary. Someone had broken out a door to the west building on the school grounds. Once inside, they stole candy and damaged a computer monitor, police said. No witnesses were located, but possible blood evidence was collected.
