Electrical Fire Extinguished at W. Hillsborough Ave. Sweetbay

A refrigerator motor had caught fire, Tampa Fire Rescue officials said. No injuries were reported, and no damage estimates were given.

Firefighters extinguished an electrical fire that filled a local Sweetbay Supermarket with smoke Monday afternoon, Tampa Fire Rescue reported.

A fire crew responded to the at 2333 W. Hillsborough Ave. at 1:49 p.m. Monday after an automatic fire alarm was triggered. The crew found smoke coming from the rear of the store, where a refrigerator motor had caught fire. It was extinguished within about eight minutes, officials said.

The store was evacuated with the help of store managers, and Tampa Fire Rescue used a high powered fan from its ventilation truck to clear it of smoke. The store was turned back over to management around 2:30 p.m.

Investigators ruled the cause as an accidental electrical fire.

No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported, and no damage estimates were given.
