Crime Blotter: Many Crooks Didn't Take Christmas Off

Just threatening to have a gun worked for one convenience store robber, but not another. Other businesses, cars and homes were broken into during a busy holiday weekend.

Dec. 22

  • A wallet was stolen from a vehicle at Rowlett Park. There were no signs of forced entry, and police have no leads.

Dec. 23

  • A master bedroom window of a house on the 8300 block of North Albany Avenue was smashed in. Jewelry, an IBM Thinkpad and a Nintendo game were stolen.

  • A chainlink fence was cut at Buffalo Auto, 2702 E. Busch Blvd., and auto parts including transmissions and carburetors were stolen.
  • The 7-Eleven at 824 W. Waters Ave. was robbed by and demanded $20 bills. The suspect also implied that he had gun in his waistband, accoring to police. The suspect was captured on store surveillance video and is described as a black male, 5-foot-10 to 6 feet tall with very pink lips, possibly in his late 30s, wearing a red shirt with an unknown print on the front and a white undershirt, dark knee length shorts, white shoes.
  • An unlocked car was ransacked on the 6900 block of North Willow Avenue. A wallet with $1,000 cash and credit cards was stolen.
  • A man tried to rob the Circle K at 1410 E. Hillsborough Ave., but was turned down by the store clerk. According to police, the suspect entered the store, picked up some candy, then layed it down on the counter along with a note implying he was robbing the business. The suspect also put his hand under his shirt to imply he had a weapon, investigators said. The clerk refused to hand over any money, so the suspect fled. Police describe him as a black male, 35 to 40 years old, 5-foot-10, thin build, wearing a black skull cap, white T-shirt, light denim knee-length shorts, white sneakers, and a silver watch on his left wrist.
  • A purse left on the seat of a car with open windows was stolen from the parking lot of , 6001 N. Nebraska Ave.

Dec. 24 or 25

  • Someone broke through the rear window of an apartment on the 1700 block of East Mulberry Drive, and stole several electronic items, purses, watches, and $850 in cash.

  • A rear glass door was broken out of a residence on the 2000 block of East Mulberry Drive. A Toshiba laptop computer, Craftsman skill saw, Hitachi skil saw, Hitachi compressor and Hitachi nailgun were stolen.

Dec. 26

  • A van's window was smashed on the 9500 block of North Nebraska Avenue. About $3,500 worth of tools were stolen from inside. The suspect was arrested after the victim indentified the suspect through surveillance video, according to police. The suspect confessed and agreed to show investigators where the tools were stashed, officials said.
