Central Tampa Mother and Toddler Escape Fire

Fire creates at least $50,000 in damages.

A Central Tampa mother and her 2-year-old son escaped a house fire on Monday, Tampa Fire Rescue Capt. Bill Wade said in a news release.

Arius Scott, 22, smelled smoke and found her rear bedroom was on fire.  She and her young child escaped unharmed from the home at 2015 E. Idlewild Ave.

When firefighters arrived, they saw smoke and flames coming from a rear window, Wade said. The fire was under control in about 10 minutes.

"It appears an electrical failure in the back room is to blame for the fire," he said.

The accidental fire caused at least $50,000 dollars in damages, he said. The American Red Cross is providing the family with temporary housing.
