Authorities Serve 33 Warrants in Central, East Tampa

"Operation Running Scared" roundup in areas including Seminole Heights tracks down 26 people wanted for failure to pay child support, possession of narcotics, battery and more.

A roundup by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office and Tampa Police Department on Tuesday resulted in 33 warrants served in Central and East Tampa, including Seminole Heights.

The sheriff's office's warrants section and TPD's Rapid Offender Control (ROC) Unit fanned out starting at 5 a.m. Tuesday in the areas of Seminole Heights, Sulphur Springs, Ybor City, Jackson Heights, Belmont Heights and the East Tampa corridor, officials said. They were looking for individuals wanted for such crimes as failure to pay child support, possession or delivery of various narcotics, dealing in stolen property, battery, grand theft and petit theft.

By the time "Operation Running Scared" wrapped up around 10:30 a.m., 26 people had been served with 33 warrants, authorities said.

"Operations such as this assist in reducing the number of outstanding warrants within Hillsborough County," sheriff's office spokesperson Debbie Carter said in a media release.
