Songs of Hope

There will be a benefit concert on Saturday, August 20th, for Mendel Claxton, who is currently fighting against cancer.

Nowadays there is just about nobody who hasn't somehow been affected by cancer.  If it hasn't stricken one of your loved ones or even you yourself, you most likely at least have a friend who has battled this disease.  I have a friend who is currently fighting cancer.  We attend the same church and his name is Mendel Claxton.

Of course we pray.  Because that is the most powerful thing we can do.  But we have also organized a benefit concert in the hopes of raising some money for Mendel and his family so that they can focus on the important things right now rather than worrying about their finances.

He is ours and we love him, so naturally we are rallying around him.  But we need help.  We need people that don't know him personally to be touched enough to attend this benefit or send a donation.  We need our community.

We are hoping that people who learn of Mendel's situation and hear about this benefit concert will be able to empathize because they know what he is going through, or love someone else who does.  We are meant to take care of each other in this life, as best as we can.  And when it comes down to it, that is all that really matters.

If you are able and would like to show your support for Mendel Claxton, a benefit concert called "Songs of Hope" will be given on Saturday, August 20, 2011, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, at the New Testament Worship Center, 5107 East 32nd Avenue, Tampa, FL 33619.  The concert will feature music by the J.O.Y. Praise Band and Singers.  There is no admission charge but donations will be accepted at the door.  A silent auction is also planned.  All proceeds will go to the Claxton family.  If you are unable to attend, but still feel moved to make a donation, you may contact me at lauraq72@verizon.net

I know there are many people fighting cancer.  I know that everyone reading this probably knows someone else who is, too.  Donate to cancer research if you can, so we can find a cure for this disease.  And in the mean time, support cancer victims as best as you can financially so that they can focus their efforts on beating the disease.
