Vintage Tampa Author Appearing at Legendary 1950s Diner: Step back in time and meet Author John Cinchett signing copies of his new book “Vintage Tampa Storefronts and Scenes” at a book signing on Friday November 9th at Tampa’s last remaining classic 1950s diner – Nicko’s, located at 4603 N. Florida Avenue in Seminole Heights from 6:30PM to 8:30PM. Nicko’s is the last of Tampa’s legendary Ayres Diners and is considered an icon of the 1950s to longtime residents. This diner received local notoriety in 1956 when Elvis Presley stopped there for a late-night visit following his concert at Tampa’s Fort Homer Hesterly Armory. Featured in the book are more than 200 historic photographs taken of Tampa from the 1940s through the 1960s including never-before-seen images of favorite downtown shopping scenes, neighborhood stores and legendary Seminole Heights businesses.
