'Walk Like MADD' to Stop Drunk Driving Held in March

The event will be at the University of South Florida.

From Becky Gage, victims services for Mothers Against Drunk Driving:

Mothers Against Drunk Driving will host the 6th Annual Tampa Walk Like MADD 5K fundraising walk on USF's campus on March 22. Sponsored by Bright House Networks, festivities begin at 5 p.m. and run until 8:30 p.m.

The Walk starts at 6:30 p.m. and will raise funds and rally support for MADD's educational programs and victim services in Hillsborough County.

All proceeds raised from the Tampa Walk Like MADD remain in Hillsborough County to further MADD's lifesaving mission by supporting and educating local families and youth right here.

"We encourage families, and groups of friends and co-workers, to lace up their
sneakers and join us for this year's walk," said Amber Saltzman, Walk Like
MADD Coordinator. "With everyone's help, we can and will eliminate drunk
driving  a 100 percent preventable crime."

Hillsborough was the deadliest county in Florida in drunk driving crashes in 2011. Sixty-seven people died in Hillsborough County that year, according to the FHSMV. That's more than one person, one of our neighbors, each week. These were all preventable and MADD is inviting Hillsborough County to come together to support prevention through education and awareness of MADD's mission.

The Walk Like MADD is taking place for the sixth year in a row and is expected
to raise $65,000 to help further MADDs mission to eliminate drunk driving,
support the victims of this violent crime and prevent underage drinking.
