'Walk Like MADD' to Stop Drunk Driving Held in March

The event will be at the University of South Florida.

From Becky Gage, victims services for Mothers Against Drunk Driving:

Mothers Against Drunk Driving will host the 6th Annual Tampa Walk Like MADD 5K fundraising walk on USF's campus on March 22. Sponsored by Bright House Networks, festivities begin at 5 p.m. and run until 8:30 p.m.

The Walk starts at 6:30 p.m. and will raise funds and rally support for MADD's educational programs and victim services in Hillsborough County.

All proceeds raised from the Tampa Walk Like MADD remain in Hillsborough County to further MADD's lifesaving mission by supporting and educating local families and youth right here.

"We encourage families, and groups of friends and co-workers, to lace up their
sneakers and join us for this year's walk," said Amber Saltzman, Walk Like
MADD Coordinator. "With everyone's help, we can and will eliminate drunk
driving  a 100 percent preventable crime."

Hillsborough was the deadliest county in Florida in drunk driving crashes in 2011. Sixty-seven people died in Hillsborough County that year, according to the FHSMV. That's more than one person, one of our neighbors, each week. These were all preventable and MADD is inviting Hillsborough County to come together to support prevention through education and awareness of MADD's mission.

The Walk Like MADD is taking place for the sixth year in a row and is expected
to raise $65,000 to help further MADDs mission to eliminate drunk driving,
support the victims of this violent crime and prevent underage drinking.

Registration is $15 for those ages 5-21, and $20 for those who are 21 and over. Registration includes a tee-shirt and participation in the food, fun and festivities. We have the best vendors of any local Walk or family event. Registered participants can expect great food from great local restaurants like Anthonys Coal Fired Pizza, Hooters, Red Robin, McDonalds, PDQ and more.

Corporations and other groups are encouraged to form teams of 10 or more and
are asked to raise $100 each through donations.

There are three ways to participate in Walk Like MADD:

1) If you live locally, you can register to walk as an individual or form a
team.
2) If you are unable to attend the event, you can sign up online to raise
money as a Virtual Walker.
3) Or, you can give a one-time donation to the Walk Like MADD.
