Two Tampa Police Officers Injured in Car Crash

Unmarked police car strikes civilian's SUV in downtown Tampa intersection.

Two Tampa Police officers are in stable condition at Tampa General Hospital after their unmarked police cruiser struck a Ford Explorer at the intersection of Polk and Tampa streets downtown, Lt. Lee Bercaw said in a news release.

At about 1 a.m. this morning, Officers Gary Saunders and Robert Partner were headed south on Tampa Street in an unmarked white Ford Crown Victoria, Bercaw said. Charles D. Barrett, 34, was driving west on Polk Street in a 1997 Ford Explorer.

The unmarked police vehicle struck the Explorer in the intersection. Both officers were rushed to the hospital in serious condition but were later upgraded to stable condition, Bercaw said.
