Tropical Storm Andrea Moves on, Rain Sticks Around

The tropical storm threat has passed, but forecasters say to expect a soggy weekend in the Tampa Bay area.

Seminole Heights residents hoping for lots of sunshine in the wake of Tropical Storm Andrea might want to look elsewhere for some rays.

The National Weather Service’s Ruskin office is forecasting a rather wet weekend for the region.

Friday’s forecast calls for mostly cloudy conditions with a slight chance of thunderstorms in the morning, said Michael Lewis, a weather service meteorologist. The sun may tease a bit later in the day, but there’s a chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon with a 50 percent chance of rain, he said.

Expect about a 40 percent chance of rain in the overnight hours of Friday, June 7.

To complicate matters, Lewis says Friday will be a hot one. The high should climb into the lower 90s while the low will only drop to about the mid-70s.

Saturday brings much of the same, but rain chances rise to 70 percent. The high will reach the upper 80s and rain chances will finally drop to about 20 percent in the overnight hours, Lewis said.

There’s promising news on the horizon though.

“Sunday will be good,” Lewis said.

Rain chances that day are 40 percent with the best chance for showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon hours. Expect a high in the 90s.
