Tampa Metro YMCA Hosting Free Swim Clinics

Registration for Swim Across America allows for free access to all Tampa area YMCA pools, according to YMCA officials.

Registration for the 2013 Swim Across America Tampa Bay event, which allows free access to all Tampa area YMCA pools, is under way. The event allows two-hour swim clinics that are held at Tampa area YMCA locations.

Required is proof of 2013 Swim Across America Tampa Bay registration and a driver’s license/ID. The promotion will expire on Friday, May 17.

In addition, the Tampa Bay chapter of Swim Across America, a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising money for cancer research, prevention and treatment through swimming-related events, will hold its second-annual open-water fundraising swim benefiting Moffitt Cancer Center at 8:30 a.m. May 18 at Pier 60 on Clearwater Beach, 7 Causeway Blvd., Clearwater Beach.

Last year’s SAA – Tampa Bay Swim raised $100,000 for Moffitt, and the group is committed to doubling that this year.

Three-time Olympic champion Brooke Bennett will serve as honorary chair of the event.

Registration for the swim clinics is not necessary. Attendees are asked to bring their 2013 Swim Across America – Tampa Bay registration and a driver’s license/ID to the clinic.
