Mayor Buckhorn to Announce Honorees for Historical Monument Trail at Riverwalk

The program recognizes significant people and events in Tampa's history.

From City of Tampa officials:

Mayor Bob Buckhorn, in conjunction with the Friends of the Riverwalk, will unveil the second group of Tampa's greats who will be memorialized along the new Historical Monument Trail that will wind around Tampa’s Riverwalk.

Serving as an educational tool to residents and visitors alike, the trail, created in 2012, will use busts, statues and monuments to represent significant events and noteworthy people that have shaped the history of Tampa and Hillsborough County.

Ultimately, more than 30 honored historical people and numerous historical informational monuments will spread across the length of the Riverwalk, and the public will be encouraged to nominate significant events and people for consideration.

Speakers will include Mayor Buckhorn, Friends of the Riverwalk representatives and Historical Monuments Trail selection committee members.

The event is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23 at the Riverwalk behind the Tampa Bay History Center, 801 Old Water Street.
