Mayor Bob Buckhorn's River O'Green Appears Today in Downtown Tampa

The event will be held at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park.

From Ali Glisson at the City of Tampa:

Mayor Bob Buckhorn will host the second annual Mayor’s River O’Green in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day today (March 16) from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park.

“The annual Mayor’s River O’Green Fest is an opportunity to celebrate with the family in downtown Tampa. If you didn’t come out to Curtis Hixon Park last year to see the Hillsborough River turn bright green, then you cannot miss the celebration this year,” said Mayor Bob Buckhorn. “A green river for St. Patrick’s Day is one of the perks of having an Irishman as your mayor.”

The City of Tampa in partnership with Grow Financial will dye the Hillsborough River kelly green between Cass Street Bridge and Kennedy Bridge. The dye is potable water grade, non-toxic, and biodegradable; it’s used primarily to trace leaks and in search and rescue efforts in large bodies of water.

In addition to a vibrant, bright green Hillsborough River, entertainment, food trucks and activities will all be on hand.  The event, as well as its entertainment and activities, are free and open to the public; however, that does not include vendor items.

This year, any attendee who brings three non-perishable food items will receive a green "Saint Patrick's Army" shirt provided by the Salvation Army. All donations will benefit the Salvation Army and provide support for those in need.

The Tampa Downtown Partnership will sell alcohol, including Guinness and Cigar City supplied by JJ Taylor Distribution, and proceeds from all alcohol sales will benefit Realm, the Downtown Partnership’s nonprofit, to program downtown parks.
