Mayor Buckhorn, Middleton High Students Partner on InVision Tampa

Students will explore architecture, landscaping and site planning options during an assignment on Tuesday, according to city officials.

From City of Tampa officials:

After completing the downtown portion of the InVision Tampa draft master plan, city officials and global planners have spent the past four months focused on the Nebraska-Hillsborough Corridor.

As part of this, the team has been walking and talking with residents and business owners in the area. Now, the community collaboration will continue as the InVision Tampa team leads the future planners, designers and engineers of a Middleton High School project aimed at enhancing a portion of the corridor study area.

“The InVision plan represents a blueprint for the next 20 years. I want the next generation of leaders to share in its development since they will reap the benefits,” said Mayor Buckhorn.

During the assignment, students will explore civil engineering, architecture, landscape and site planning options. This includes an analysis of the street, transit, stormwater, parks and green networks, and cultural frameworks. The conceptual master plan will evaluate the block bounded by E. Hillsborough Avenue on the north, N. 17th Street on the west, N.19th Street on the east and E. Giddens Avenue on the south.

Mayor Buckhorn will launch the project on Wednesday, March 5 at 1:30 p.m. at Middleton High School. After the launch, the team will work with students for two months. The initiative will culminate on April 30 at 5:30 p.m. when the group presents its findings during the public corridor design workshop at the Children’s Board of Hillsborough County.
