Sunshine Should Follow Spring's Wet Arrival in Seminole Heights

A new season has arrived and it looks like Mother Nature is going to prove it by delivering showers, followed by sunny skies and then perhaps more rain in the Seminole Heights area.

The National Weather Service says we should see a little bit of both as this first partial week of spring wears on. March 20 marks the official first day of spring, also known as the spring equinox, and it should bring some showers. The weather service says there’s an 80 percent chance of rain Wednesday with some showers possible overnight.

Things should clear out heading into Thursday, March 21, with sunshine and a high near 70 anticipated. Friday should deliver much of the same with a high climbing to the upper 70s. Rain chances squeak back in Friday night and increase slightly on Saturday and again on Sunday. Anticipate daily highs over the weekend reaching the mid-80 mark.

The spring equinox means more daylight, warmer temperatures and the rebirth of flora and fauna, according to The Old Farmer’s Almanac. The word equinox is derived from the Latin words meaning “equal night,” according to the almanac. Days and nights are approximately equal, and the sun rises and sets due east and west.

Spring also means Easter is right around the corner (March 31) and vegetable garden-planting time has almost arrived.

Spring will last three months until June 21, and summer will carry on until the autumnal equinox on Sept. 22 at 4:44 p.m., according to the U.S. Naval Observatory.
