Family Dollar's Grand Opening Sparks Conversation

On Tuesday, we reported the grand opening of Family Dollar in Seminole Heights after spotting a sign along North Florida Avenue.

The store, which had a "soft opening" in May, will host a grand opening on Thursday, June 19, according to Family Dollar spokeswoman Bryn Winburn.

Since then, we've received overwhelming responses from our Facebook fan page and the story. On our Facebook fan page, two out of 23 comments were in support of the store opening after we asked if readers would stop by the business at 5100 N. Florida Avenue.

Feel free to voice your opinion in our comments section if you haven't already.

Family Dollar Comments Roundup:

  • "Sorry not to excited since our petition did squat. they still put the store up even though they have one on Hillsborough and Nebraska i guess since we are not a rich area we have to look like trash." - Natasha Patrinostro via Seminole Heights Patch
  • "Unfortunately this neighborhood has a mix of people and there are plenty of people that will shop at both places. If everyone was interested in the positive changes that we have already achieved then we wouldn't be having these set-backs." - Jen Allen via Facebook
  • "Not this girl!" - Donna Palmer via Facebook
  • "The last thing Seminole Heights needed was a Family Dollar store. I plan to never support this eyesore." - Earl Stine via Seminole Heights Patch
  • "No. I'm hoping it will be a poor performing store and therefore close." - Nikki Chandler Couture via Facebook
