6-Day Panhandling Ban Under Review in Tampa

The City Council will consider banning panhandling on Tampa streets six days a week.

The hot button issue of panhandling made its way back to the Tampa City Council chambers on Thursday. After nearly two years of wrangling with the issue, council members appeared closer to making a decision to restrict the practice.

TBO.com reporter Christian Wade posted an article on Thursday reporting that the City Council has asked the city's legal department to draft a proposed ordinance to restrict roadside solicitations by panhandlers, labor unions and charities to only being allowed on Sundays. Newspaper sales would be allowed seven days a week.

Wade's article says the council will hold a preliminary vote on the proposed new rules on Sept. 22.
