5 Things You Can Do With Your Kids This Weekend

Here's Patch's picks for family-friendly entertainment around the region.

  1. - The arrival of the fall season means flea markets are back … or so they say. The Wellswood Civic Association is hosting a great one on Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon that will include all kinds of rare items, jewelry, children's section, clothes, household, electronics, and more. There will also be plenty of homemade goodies at the concession stand for breakfast and lunch. The shopping fest will be set up at the Wellswood Civic Center at 4806 Wishart Blvd. Rent a table for $10 and bring your own items to sell!

  2. - Grab your bike and helmet and head out with the family for an leisurely ride on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. Cyclists of all ages and skill levels are welcome to participate in the 5-mile ride through the neighborhood. The group will depart from 1203 E. Powhatan Ave., take a scenic ride around Lake Roberta and over  to Park Circle.

  3. - This FREE family-friendly community event will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the All People's Live Center, 6105 E. Sligh Ave. It will offer educational opportunities for those with and without disabilities. Enjoy carnival games, balloon making, arts and crafts, a bounce house, face painting and bowling.  The Southeastern Guide Dogs will perform. Attendees also can enjoy free popcorn, have their pictures taken on a motorcycle, and get flu shots.

  4. - It's certainly not a trip to Comic Con, but your kids will think it's pretty cool to see costumes and related objects from science-fiction and television programs such as "Star Trek," "Battlestar Galactica," "Batman," "Star Wars," "Blade Runner" and "The Terminator." Costumed characters will march at 1 p.m. Saturday from Cotanchobee Fort Brooke Park in downtown Tampa to the Tampa Bay History Center at 801 Old Water St. The costume exhibit runs through Jan. 7.

  5. - If you've got a young foodie budding in your family, bring the family to the John F. Germany Library on Saturday at 2 p.m. for an introduction to natural loose-leaf gourmet tea. The FREE program covers tea's history, origin, tasting notes, preparation and health benefits, which are supported by scientific research.
