5 Things to Know Today

Here's Wednesday's roundup of events, information and trivia.

  1. The weather will likely remain a little gloomy today with a 60 percent chance of rain and scattered thunderstorms.
  2. It's Open Mic Night at the New Way Café. The event runs 6 to 10 p.m. and is open to local musicians, poets, singers and comedians.
  3. The Seminole Heights Running Club meets each Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m. at The Independent Bar and Café. Bring your sneakers and join fellow running enthusiasts for a jog/walk through the neighborhood and Downtown Tampa.
  4. If you're interested in learning more about Central Tampa's green space initiative and the city's walk-bike project, known as The Green Artery, a progress report will be given tonight at the Trolley Barn, 1910 N. Ola Ave. Doors open at 6:30 for a reception and tour of the Trolley Barn. The meeting begins at 7 p.m.
  5. Thirty years ago today, then 70-year-old President Ronald Reagan was shot outside a Washington, D.C. , hotel by John Hinckley Jr. Also injured were White House Press Secretary James Brady, who was shot in the head, a Secret Service agent, and a D.C. policeman.
