5 Things to Know Today

Here's Friday's roundup of events, information and trivia.

  1. We're going to bring you two wonderful stories later this morning involving the Tampa Police Department:
    • The first story will tell you about a young robbery victim and the efforts police took to solve the case and restore the boy's stolen belongings and his dignity.
    • The second is a recap of last night's "Thin Blue Line" memorial ceremony outside police headquarters downtown. The additions to the memorial include a blue laser visible at night and additional granite for engraving.

  3. If you work downtown — or perhaps you're due at the courthouse for some reason — take your lunch break at the , held weekly on Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Lots of fresh food, music and gifts galore!
  4. The Gasparilla International Film Festival opened yesterday at the Tampa Theatre with a reception and showing. The event continues through Sunday with films playing at Muvico Centro Ybor and Cinébistro Hyde Park and after parties at various venues. Check the festival program for details.
  5. Seminole Heights Patch has purchased four tickets to the Old Seminole Heights Home Tour and we will be giving them away in a contest for our readers. Details will be announced soon, so stay tuned!
