5 Things to Know Today

Here's Thursday's roundup of events, information and trivia.

  1. Yesterday's vote by the Hillsborough Board of County Commissioners to ban roadside transactions on both county and state roads does not apply within the city limits. In Tampa, pedestrians — whether they are beggars, newspaper vendors or charities — may still solicit money from drivers if they wear a reflective vest.
  2. The Tampa City Council is meeting for its regular session today. On the agenda is approval of a zoning request that will pave the way for construction of the new Seminole Heights Branch Library.
  3. The Tampa Bay Lightning take to the ice tonight against the Orlando Predators at the St. Pete Times Forum at 6:30 p.m.
  4. Coincidentally, the first indoor game of ice hockey was played on this day in 1875 in Montreal, Quebec.
  5. Pollen counts are expected to peak this weekend. While all the blossoming trees are quite beautiful and the temperatures are mild, you may want to keep your windows closed to lessen your exposure to allergens.
