5 Things to Know This Weekend

Here' s the weekend's roundup of information and events.

1. Red Light Cameras
Remember those ? Well, they're here and they will start capturing photos today. During October, drivers who run red lights will receive a warning notice in the mail with no fine — but beginning Nov. 1, violators will be issued a $158 ticket. Five intersections within Seminole Heights Patch's coverage news coverage area will include the cameras:

  • Hillsborough Avenue westbound at Nebraska Avenue and Nebraska northbound at Hillsborough
  • Hillsborough eastbound and westbound at 22nd Street
  • Florida Avenue southbound at Waters Avenue and Waters eastbound at Florida
  • Armenia Avenue northbound at Hillsborough Avenue
  • Waters Avenue westbound and eastbound at Armenia Avenue

The arrival of the fall season means flea markets are back … or so they say. The Wellswood Civic Association is hosting a great one on Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon that will include all kinds of rare items, jewelry, children's section, clothes, household, electronics, and more. There will also be plenty of homemade goodies at the concession stand for breakfast and lunch. The shopping fest will be set up at the Wellswood Civic Center at 4806 Wishart Blvd. Rent a table for $10 and bring your own items to sell!

This FREE family-friendly community event will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the All People's Live Center, 6105 E. Sligh Ave. It will offer educational opportunities for those with and without disabilities. Enjoy carnival games, balloon making, arts and crafts, a bounce house, face painting and bowling.  The Southeastern Guide Dogs will perform. Attendees also can enjoy free popcorn, have their pictures taken on a motorcycle, and get flu shots.

4. Health Mutt
. It opens its doors on Oct. 1. Entrepreneur Kendra Bailey plans to offer affordably priced goods and services, and events for animal lovers at 6116 N. Central Ave. Bailey, a neighborhood resident, worked part-time at Groovy Cats & Dogs in Carrollwood while she was in school.

Lowry Park is holding a celebration to mark the debut of two new furry additions on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. - 12 noon. Have lots of fun with Radio Disney AM 1380, activities, treats and more! Plus, the first 200 guests in the Zoo's gate will receive a plush leopard cub. All activities are included with Zoo admission.
