5 Things to Know This Weekend

Here's the weekend's roundup of events, information and trivia.

  1. Get your brew on! On Saturday, is hosting the American Homebrewers Association's Big Brew in celebration of National Homebrew Day. Bring your equipment and brew in the beer garden with other homebrewing enthusiasts from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The bar is offering $1 off all draft beers all day and food specials.
  2. Make a surprise gift for Mom at the Glazer Children's Museum. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, the museum has reserved the Greenberg Traurig Art Lab on Level 2 for creative kids and will even wrap their gifts. Free with museum admission: $15 for adults, $12.50 for military and seniors, $9.50 for children over 1 year of age.
  3. Spend an elegant Saturday evening at the Sea Grapes Fine Wine & Food Festival. The event runs from 8 to 11 p.m. at 701 Channelside Dr. and benefits the youth education and conservation programs of the Florida Aquarium. Tickets remain $95 until 5 p.m. and then increase to $125 at the gate. Attendees can sample more than 100 wines provided by Total Wine & More, dine on cuisine from 20 premier Bay-area restaurants, enjoy live jazz and entertainment throughout the aquarium, and bid on unique items through a silent auction.
  4. This Sunday is the final of the season. Don't miss this one, folks! Organizers have planned a special surprise event at 11 a.m. that you won't want to miss. The Market also will award its second annual scholarship to a deserving Hillsborough High School graduating senior. It'll be the perfect Mother's Day to treat Mom to good food, fun and music! The Market is held on the second Sunday of each month from October through May, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the lawn of Hillsborough High School, 5000 N. Central Ave.
  5. In honor of Sunday being Mother’s Day -- and the three rock wallabies who have become new moms -- Lowry Park Zoo is offering mothers free admission to the zoo and the DinoQuest exhibit with the purchase of any full-price child’s (or adult child’s) admission purchased this weekend.
