5 Things to Know This Weekend

Here's the weekend's roundup of events, information and trivia.

  1. Pride on 7th returns to Ybor City on Saturday with an expected 10,000 attendees for the second annual celebration of gay, lesbian, bisexual and trans unity. The event kicks off at 9 a.m. with an anti-bullying walk. The festival includes a family area, vendors, a Miss Pride on 7th Pageant and a finale red carpet dance party at G-Bar.
  2. The March of Dimes invites you to the Hillsborough County March for Babies, set for Saturday morning. Registration is at 6:30 a.m. and the march begins at 8 a.m. from the St. Pete Times Forum, 401 Channelside Dr.
  3. Here there be dragons … dragon boats, that is. The 8th Annual Tampa Bay Dragon Boat Races get underway Saturday on the waters of the Garrison Channel with opening ceremonies at 8:30 a.m. and the first race at 9 a.m. You can get a great view of the race from outside the Marriott Waterside. Fifty-six teams have registered. Each boat is 45 feet long with 20 paddlers sitting side by side in 10 rows. A steer person sits in the stern and a drummer sits facing the crew.
  4. Happening right next to the dragon boat race is Asia Fest! The free event celebrates Asian culture, food and music. It begins at 11 a.m. at Cotanchobee Park, 610 Channelside Dr.
  5. To celebrate its second anniversary, the Seminole Heights Community Gardens group is holding a at The Independent on Sunday at 4 p.m.
