UPDATE: Salem's Sub Shop Owner Withdraws Drive Through Petition

The restaurant's drive through request caused a stir among residents.

A few months ago, Salem's Gyro & Sub Shop made plans to move into Old Seminole Heights.

That prompted residents,

They circulated a petition, talked to realtors about the property on Nebraska Avenue and asked the owner to shorten business hours.

During a hearing this morning with Tampa City Council members, the owner removed his petition for the drive through, said Lori Kay, who lives nearby.

Kay said she is grateful the drive through option is no longer on the table.

"His restaurants have such a bad reputation," she said.

It's unknown if the restaurant will still open. A call left to a spokesman at Salem's was not returned.

Meanwhile, Kay said residents are welcoming to new businesses in the area, and supports the sub shop opening its doors.

"Just take the chance and open it without a drive through," she said. "I don't know if he will, but I wish he would."
