Seminole Heights Sunday Morning Market Hosting 'Chef Off'
Opening day for the fifth season of the Seminole Heights Sunday Morning Market is around the corner.
But this year, something will be a little different.
The first annual "Chef Off" will kick off at the market. Using the Food Network's Chopped show as inspiration, the challenge features local chefs who will compete against each other using a mystery basket of produce and starch.
Chefs Lori Staczewilz from Mermaid Tavern and Chad McColgm of Domani Bistro & Lounge will bring protein and a team of helpers to create a dish within an hour and 15 minutes, said Tiffany Ferrecchia, market manager.
Judges include Mayor Bob Buchorn, Jeff Houck of The Tampa Tribune and Greg Baker of The Refinery.
The event is free, but to vote for a winner, a $10 ticket must be purchased. Tickets are on sale here, Cleanse Apothecary, Health Mutt and Mermaid Tavern. Proceeds go to Meals on Wheels.
The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 13.
"We created this event to connect the market more so with the neighborhood and it's businesses, and to highlight the opening day of the market each season," said Ferrecchia via email. "We are very excited to launch this event as it will give two new chefs in our neighborhood the chance to show off their talents and compete against each other to donate money to our chosen charity - Meals on Wheels, Tampa."
