Seminole Heights Barber Shop Celebrates One Year in Business

David Beltran moved his business to create the Seminole Heights Barber Shop a year ago this July 22 and now he is ready to celebrate.

When moved his barber shop from West Tampa to Seminole Heights last year he knew that people in the area needed a barber shop, but he had no idea the type of support he would receive.

The business has grown faster than Beltran could have imagined. With a steady customer base flowing into his chair, Beltran is on the verge of hiring new barbers to come in and help ease the workload.

"The neighborhood here has supported me so much for a guy that wasn't known in the area," Beltran said. "It's been incredible for me, I never expected to have so many customers in such a short period of time. I love it here, the people are great, but I've got to hire more barbers for the second year. By myself, it won't be possible to keep growing."

Beltran intends to reward his customers with a special day on Saturday July 21, in which every haircut will only cost $10. It comes in the spirit of The Columbia Restaurant's anniversary celebration in which all menu items cost as much as they were on the menu when the restaurant opened in 1905. Beltran's haircuts have gone up in price from the orginal $10, but his anniversary will mark a day where he can show his appreciation through the cost.

"The local customers are so glad that we're here because they were driving to places like West Tampa to get their hair cut," Beltran said. "I want to do something special to say thank you to the people of Seminole Heights for welcoming me the way they have. I want to have the prices like when we opened and when people come in, we'll offer them a beverage and some chips or something."
