Family Dollar's Aesthetics in Seminole Heights: What Readers Had to Say

We asked what you thought about the newest Family Dollar location at 5100 N. Florida Avenue. We compiled your reactions below.

When talk of Family Dollar arises in Seminole Heights, some residents say the chain store has no place in the community, while others think a small business would fit better in its place.

While the issue has been divisive, one thing remains true: The store is opening another set of doors in a few weeks on at 5100 N. Florida Avenue.

On Wednesday, we asked readers on Facebook and on Seminole Heights Patch what they thought about the aesthetics of the new store, since it looks to be almost complete.

Here's a sampling of responses:

  • "The building in its original condition was far better and more suited to the neighborhood. This family dollar looks better than most, mainly because they did not construct it anew, but it is still an eyesore, childsplay of architectural design, befitting of a store that sells watered down products, underpays their employees, and sucks profits out of the community." - Rebecca Flanders, via the Seminole Heights Facebook fan page
  • "It's still a "family dollar' store and still looks cheap. The signs makes it look evem cheaper. It prob won't be kept up and will look like the others in a short time....I hope I'm wrong." - Dean Rands, via the Seminole Heights Facebook fan page
  • "A professional paint job and giant parking lot seems typical for corporate businesses. It would be great if it became a Trader Joes or even a small grocery store like Rollin Oats, something more suited to a blooming historic neighborhood with young professionals. Instead we have one more dollar store amongst the 8 that are already within a 1 to 4 mile radius." - Natalie Jane, via the Seminole Heights Facebook fan page
  • "We live in the city and can't expect everything to be just as we would have it be. That's what all those deed-restricted developments are for." - Reader Andrew, via the comments section of the Seminole Heights Patch site
