Urban Art Attack Initiative To Be Discussed At Neighborhood Meeting

The Old Seminole Heights Neighborhood Association will meet July 23 at the Seminole Heights Garden Center.

Residents and business owners interested in integrating public art into the community's architecture, infrastructure and landscape are invited to attend the Tuesday, July 23 meeting of the Old Seminole Heights Neighborhood Association.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at the Seminole Heights Garden Center, 5800 N. Central Ave., Tampa.

Sherry Genovar-Simon, president of the Southeast Seminole Heights Civic Association, will speak on the new neighborhood initiative, "Urban Art Attack."

In an effort to beautify the community as well as give exposure to local artists, Seminole Heights Urban Art Partners is teaming up with the Seminole Heights Foundation to form a nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing Seminole Heights' heritage, diversity and character with urban art.

Initial projects include entry art at Ella's Folk Art Restaurant, wall art at the Ella's annex building, wall art and entry art at Southern Brewing and Wine Making and dimensional yard art and entry art at Reservations Gourmet-to-Go.

Genovar-Simon, who first proposed the initiative, will discuss ways artists, businesses and the community in general can get involved.

In addition to the discussion of "Urban Art Attack," the association will present a portion of the proceeds from the Old Seminole Heights Home Tour to a local charity.

The evening will include a potluck supper. Those with a last name beginning with A-L should bring a side dish and those with last names beginning with M-Z should bring a dessert. The main dish and beverages will be provided by the association.
