TECO Updating Juneau Street Substation

Improvements to the facility in the Lowry Park Central neighborhood will begin in December.

The Tampa Electric Company is planning to replace a transformer and remove old equipment from a substation at 2112 W. Juneau St.

TECO project manager Arlee Jones said the project will commence in three phases. Starting in December, crews will remove an old steel lattice circuit-switcher structure and a concrete transmission pole. In January, a new concrete foundation will be built for the substation's new transformer. In February, the new transformer will be installed. A new sound wall will be built around the transformer.

Traffic may be temporarily disrupted during the project, Jones said, and trees along Juneau Street may need to be trimmed to accommodate the transportation of the new equipment. Jones added that residents may hear construction noise during daylight hours, and that landscaping will be restored upon completion of the project.
