Seminole Heights Cancer Survivors Invited to Participate in YMCA's Livestrong Program
The program kicks off on Friday, May 17 at YMCA locations near Seminole Heights.
Nine years after the launch of the Livestrong bracelet, Tampa YMCA's are kicking off Livestrong programs at local branches on May 17, according to YMCA officials.
From May 17 through May 26, all Tampa YMCA branches will be celebrating cancer survivors and raising awareness about Livestrong, a free 12-week program for cancer survivors and their families that offers physical and social activities.
“Researchers are learning physical activity, during and after cancer treatment, can reduce the risk of cancer recurrence and mortality for some cancers and can reduce the risk of developing other long-term conditions,” says Maureen Chiodini, associate vice-president of wellness for the Tampa Y, in a news release. “However, physical activity and well-being programs specifically for cancer survivors are scarce. The Tampa Y is proud to offer the program free to all cancer survivors - at any state of survivorship - and their families in Hillsborough and East Pasco counties.”
