Seminole Heights Relay for Life Planning Under Way

The April 13-14 fundraiser held a kickoff event last month and hosts its next team meeting Monday, Dec. 12.

The American Cancer Society's Relay for Life of Seminole Heights kickoff party was held Nov. 28 at the Metropolitan Community Church in Old Seminole Heights.

Relay for Life is an overnight fundraising event where teams of people around the nation camp out around a track or course and take turns walking it for the duration of event.

A release from Susanna Doyle, community representative of the American Cancer Society Greater Tampa Unit, said the event will be held April 13-14, 2012, at Hillsborough High School, with a 6 p.m. opening ceremony and 6:30 p.m. survivor lap kickoff.

"Our goal is to have 34 teams this year and raise $52,000 for programs and services right here in the Tampa community," Doyle wrote.

Groups of 10-15 make up a team and can register at relayforlife.org/seminoleheightsfl. The registration fee is $100 per team.

The next Relay For Life team party will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12, at .

"We will talk about the campsite locations and how to start fundraising!" Doyle wrote. "People are welcome to bring a dish to share and we will have drinks and snacks there."
