UPDATE: Relay for Life of Seminole Heights event chair Chad Daughtrey said: "We ended up the event raising approximately $44,000 dollars before expenses. We'll have the official number at our wrap up party on May 7."

The wrap up party, which is open to the public, will be held at the , 4207 N. Boulevard, at 6 p.m. on May 7.

The American Cancer Society’s  began Friday night, April 13, at  5000 Central Ave.

Relay for Life is an overnight fundraising event where teams of people camp out around a track and take turns walking it to raise awareness and money for cancer research. Food, games and activities provide entertainment and fundraising opportunities.

Thirty-two groups for a total of over 400 participants were registered to take part in the 18-hour long event, which will conclude at noon Saturday, April 14.

Relay for Life of Seminole Heights event chair Chad Daughtrey said that this year’s goal is to raise $52,000. 

The fundraising progress was at about $40,000 as of Friday at 8:30 p.m., according to Daughtrey.
