Quiet Election Morning at Seminole Heights Polls

With a primarily Democrat demographic, Tuesday morning has seen a quiet turnout at the voting booths in Seminole Heights.

The opening of the voters' booths was met with the sound of crickets this morning in many parts of Seminole Heights as several polling places saw only a few voters turn out for the Republican Primary.

The combination of a primarily Democratic demographic in the area and the heavy use absentee ballots in modern elections are likely the biggest factors keeping people away from the voting booth. This morning's turnout didn't surprise poll deputies.

"There's only 12 registered Republicans in this entire precinct," said Harold Hargroves, poll deputy for Precinct 213. "We've had three in the first few hours. I don't expect much with absentee ballets being used as much as they are now."

Things were even more calm at the Bob Gilbertson YMCA this morning as only a single voter came through in the first two hours of the poll being open.

Meanwhile, one of the busier precincts was at Seminole Presbyterian Church (Precinct 231) where more than 15 Republicans turned up in the first few hours of voting.

There appeared to be no clear favorite candidate among those who turned up. Voters expressed frustration over the style of campaign that is being run in this primary and the lack of options they see in candidates who stand a chance to win.

"I wish they'd stop lying," Seminole Heights resident Will B. Rich said. "It's just one lie after another and I have to say I feel sorry for the younger generations who have nothing to choose between other than the lesser of these evils. It wasn't like this when I was growing up but that's the way it is."
