Get Out: Weekend Events Preview September 21-23

From live music to yoga, there are plenty of reasons to get out of the house this weekend.

Live Music Fridays at Ella's

Where/when: 5119 North Nebraska Avenue on Friday starting at 10 p.m.

Why go? If you like the blues and a powerful female voice up front, Friday night's Kaleigh Baker show at Ella's is surely for you. The Orlando band is currently on tour and promises to deliver a good show to Seminole Heights that will combine the raw and powerful tone of a Janis Joplin or Jack White with a smooth signature of its own.

Wellswood BarBQue Bash

Where/when: Wellswood Civic Center, 4806 Wishart Blvd on Saturday at noon

Why go? The civic center needs repainting and plans to raise funds to do it by selling BBQ chicken or ribs, home-made side dishes of cole slaw, potato salad, baked beans and tea. Desserts will be sold as well and items can be eaten there or taken out. 

Price: $10 per plate.

Yoga for Headaches and Migraines with Jennifer Yarter

When/where: Jai Dee Yoga and Wellness Studio, 5803 North Florida Avenue on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Why go? Headaches can be caused by a variety of reasons like tension in your neck, tight shoulders, or back pain, and this restorative yoga practice is designed to gently stretch and open those areas, while circulating blood and oxygen to your head. In this workshop, learn specific pain relief techniques such as pranayama breathing exercises, restorative asanas (and learn which asanas to avoid), craniosacral pressure points and meditative visualization exercises.

Seminole Heights Fine Arts Series

When/where: Seminole Church, 5103 North Central Avenue on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Why go? The Lopez Tabor Duo will be on hand for a romantic evening of Classical and Spanish music. Alfonso Lopez, violin, and Michelle Tabor, piano, have performed and toured together in the southeastern U.S. and Venezuela since 2004.  Alfonso Lopez is one of the most prominent and versatile musicians of his country, holding the important position of concertmaster of the Venezuela Symphony Orchestra. He is also a conductor, teacher, and composer.  Michelle Tabor grew up in Venezuela and now lives in Tallahassee.

Live Music Nite-The Funky Pandas

When/where: Cold Storage Brewery, 4101 North Florida Avenue on Saturday at 8 p.m.

Why go? The Funky Pandas, a high-energy duo whose musical purpose is to bring rock to the masses of folks from all walks of life in the name of fiesta, drunkeness, debauchery, love and good times promises to deliver an entertaining show.

Sunday Special: Free Hot Dogs and $2 Bloody Marys

When/where: American Legion Post 111, 6918 North Florida Avenue on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Why go? American Legion Seminole Post 111 offers free grilled hot dogs with all the trimmings every Sunday, along with $2 Bloody Marys, special prices on beer, and four TVs to watch sports, weather or news.
