Get Out: Weekend Events Preview July 20-22

There is no shortage of fun events to take in this weekend in the Seminole Heights area.

When/where: 5119 North Nebraska Avenue, tonight at 10 p.m.

Why go? Local musicians perform live on the Ella's Americana stage every week. This week's artist Genghis Flan, is self described as a blues rock alternative five piece setup that fits under the genre Floridana. Whether you're dining, or stopping by to enjoy the show, Ella's is the ideal place to kick off your weekend in Seminole Heights.

The Box Theater Presents The Summer Games Improv Show and The List

When/where: 1300 East 7th Avenue, tonight at 8 p.m.

Why go? Forget sweaty athletes going for the gold. Experience the thrill of victory and agony of defeat as improvisors compete for laughs. Events include
the Tri-Laugh-Along, Synchronized Storytelling, Guffaw Gymnastics, Joviality Throw, and other witty, ab-splitting events that will have you on the edge of your seat. Don't miss the exciting opening ceremonies.

Afterward, see a long form improv show based on quirky Craigslist ads.

Why go?This Saturday is the bar's annual celebration of Belgium's Independence Day. The event will feature specials on Belgian Beers on tap and in the bottle, as well as traditional Pomme Frites & Mussels, and live music from Rebecca Zapen & LaRue Nickelson.

When/where: Phoenix Glass Studio, 811 East Knollwood Street, Saturday at noon.

Why go? As part of the summer arts celebration in Seminole Heights, preview the “Vignettes’ of Tampa”: the Zack Street Public Art Project, by Susan Gott.  Susan has created cast glass panels for this project to be installed in downtown Tampa, part of the Promenade of the Arts, a public art project for the City of Tampa. Her gallery will host glassblowing demos and an open studio reception.

When/where: 4101 North Florida Avenue, Saturday at 1 p.m.

Why go? Cold Storage Craft Brewery opens its doors to the public the third Saturday of every month from 1-4p.m. It’s not only a good opportunity for you to see first-hand where and how your beer is made, but it’s also a chance to meet the owners and tour the facility which will open up an in-house pub in the near future.

When/where: 1101 West Sligh Avenue, Sunday starting at 9:30 a.m.

Why go?

The Lowry Park Zoo offers $5 admission to all adults, seniors and children ages 3 to 11 (children 2 and younger are free). Free extra parking is available at the Tampa Greyhound Track, 8300 N. Nebraska Ave., with shuttles running continuously from the lot to the zoo.
