The Laundry Love Project

Volunteers from Current of Tampa Bay, Inc. will spend their time to helping to wash the clothes of those less fortunate during the Laundry Love Project. This project provides an opportunity for volunteers from throughout the community to assist families by helping them afford a simple, yet often unnoticed need: doing their laundry.

Current of Tampa Bay, Inc. President/Founder Jason Sowell and his volunteer force have been providing free laundry services throughout Tampa for more than two years. Last month, Sowell and his volunteers traveled to Las Vegas for the holiday season to host several projects.

For most people, washing clothes is a fairly simple task since both washing machines and dryers are usually placed inside their home. With this convenience, doing laundry normally takes just a just a little amount of time. Unfortunately, it is not as easy for many people living in poverty, including many Sulphur Springs residents. Laundry can be both time-consuming and expensive. Current is dedicated to assisting residents meet this often daunting task. This is the first project of the New Year and Sowell is excited about teaming up with a well-known coffee shop.

For the upcoming project, Current is partnering with Starbucks at 502 E. Hillsborough Ave. Starbucks employees will volunteer and provide financial assistance. “We are eager to provide Sulphur Springs residents with clean laundry. We know that little things, like clean laundry, can make a huge difference in the lives of those who need it,” said store manager Adam Clayton.

Current needs community support to assist these families and seeks donations of quarters (rolls of $10), coloring books, crayons and laundry baskets and laundry detergent. Donations can be brought to the event on the morning of Jan. 21 or contact Jason Sowell at 727-537-9082.  More information about this event can be found online at www.LaundryByCurrent.org.
