Local Nonprofit Hosts Free Laundry Project for Tampa Residents

– New Current of Tampa Bay, Inc. volunteers will spend Saturday, April 28, volunteering their time to help wash the clothes of those less fortunate. The project will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Ybor Wash House. The Laundromat is located at 1805 N. 34th St. Tampa, FL 33605.

This is the first time that Pivot Charter School is partnering with Current. Pivot Hillsborough County is an innovative site-based approach to high quality education and is one of two located in Florida. The school will provide financial support and 10-15 volunteers for the weekend.

Over the past couple of years there has been an influx of young people offering support to Current and their mission. “Youth volunteering has multiple benefits; not only do they have an opportunity to serve the community but they also get a chance to promote a cause they deem important. We are grateful for the support Pivot students and their fundraising efforts for this project,” said Current’s Founder/President Jason Sowell.

During Easter weekend, Current held two Laundry Love Projects and washed approximately more than 580 loads of laundry for 58 families. This was only possible because of the work of dedicated volunteers.  “Current is always in need of volunteers. We invite anyone who is willing to provide hope to underserved community members,” said Sowell.

The next Laundry Love Project will be held Saturday, May 5, in Jacksonville, FL.

The Laundry Love Projects always seeks donations of quarters (rolls of $10), coloring books, crayons, laundry baskets and laundry detergent. Donations can be brought to the event on the morning of April 28 or contact Jason Sowell at 727.537.9082.  More information about this event can be found online at www.LaundryByCurrent.org.
