Conference to Tackle Mother-Daughter Issues

The conference will take place Saturday, May 18.

With peer pressure, teasing and the desire to fit in, the teenage years can be tumultuous ones for girls.

However, a healthy mother-daughter relationship can help quell that teenage angst.

That's why St. Joseph’s Women’s Hospital, St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital and BayCare Behavioral Health have joined together to offer a Mother/Daughter Conference.

The conference will take place Saturday, May 18 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the St. Joseph's Women's Hospital Pavilion's fourth-floor classroom, 3030 W. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Tampa.

The conference is for girls age 11 to 14 and their mothers and will tackle topics such as teasing, self-esteem, relationships and social media.

The keynote speaker will be licensed social worker Judy Freedman, who has more than 30 years of therapeutic and educational experience with children, adolescents and adults in a variety of settings. As a social worker in elementary schools for more than 20 years, she created Easing the Teasing, a groundbreaking program that empowers kids with essential skills and strategies to handle teasing incident.

Following the keynote speech, there will be breakout sessions for moms and daughters. Moms will learn about building healthy relationships with their teen daughters while daughters will explore ways to become more confident.

Attendees also will have the opportunity to hear from the experts during a panel discussion on raising confident daughters in an ever-changing world with Freedman as the moderator.
