Chamberlain High Student Wins Verizon's 'My Fabulous Quince' Contest

Lourdes Reyes has won what could be the most memorable quince celebration ever.

It took two months of anxious waiting, but for one Tampa Bay Latino girl, it was worth it.

Chamberlain High School sophomore Lourdes Reyes has won Verizon’s "My Fabulous Quince" contest.  As a result, she wins a $2,500 college scholarship and an all-expense-paid party like few others, featuring:

  • A party for up to 100 guests.
  • A fabulous dress for the event and use of a limousine.
  • A cake and flowers.
  • Music and photographer.

The Quince party will feature local vendors providing all of the finishing touches, including Emelina’s Alterations & Creations and L’Artisan Cake Atelier, both from Tampa.

“Growing up can be challenging but it’s also supposed to be fun,” said Jeanmarie Milla, Verizon’s Florida region president for operations. “We at Verizon are privileged to make Lourdes' Quince a memorable one and, more importantly, help her off to a good start on her academic career with a $2,500 scholarship.  This is truly the best of both worlds.”

Lourdes was one of approximately 700 area girls who entered the contest hoping for the chance to celebrate their 15th birthday and the transition from childhood to young womanhood in style. Entries were received from Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Polk, Sarasota and Manatee Counties.
