7 Things You Can Do With Your Kids This Weekend

There is a lot going on this weekend in Central Tampa that is family friendly and affordable to do! Check out what we've spotted on the events calendar.

FRIDAY

11 a.m. , 1101 W. Sligh Avenue. - No, the humans aren't tossing pumpkins -- the animals are! Observe your favorite creatures as they get pumpkins, and see which ones stomp, chomp, kick, play and pounce on the seasonal treats.

9 a.m. at Phoenix Glass Art Studio, 811 E. Knollwood St. - Phoenix Glass Studio, the Seminole Heights Bicycle Club and Alan Snel of Bicycle Energy present a bicycling tour through Seminole Heights that includes three art stops and three antique shops. The ride starts and ends at Phoenix Glass Studio & Gallery, which features the work of glass artist Susan Gott and jewelry by Ellen Vontillius. The gallery will have demonstrations, opportunities to make your own pumpkin, and refreshments. The ride is free, but you must register and sign a waiver to participate.

11 a.m. visits Seminole Heights at 300 E. Sligh Ave. - Food trucks bring some cuisine on wheels to this church parking lot for a fun gathering. The blog Tasting Tampa described September's Food Truck Rally in Hyde Park this way: "Expect a variety of flavors, like Wicked ‘Wiches’ awesome sandwiches, 3 Ballers Traveling Bistro’s gourmet fare, Michelle Faedo’s famous Deviled Crab & Cubans, and much more. ... Live music, home-baked desserts, free child care and a nice shaded parking lot to enjoy it in. What’s not to love?"

 

SUNDAY

9 a.m. at 600 N. Ashley Dr. - The Animal Coalition of Tampa (or ACT) presents this 3-mile walk open to animal lovers who want to raise money to end local pet overpopulation. Last year's event raised over $42,000 for ACT to provide spaying and neutering services, shots, and microchips. This event includes activities, prizes, food, demonstrations, and pet-friendly vendors. Leashed, well-behaved dogs are welcome to attend.

11 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. "Cats, Bats & Bones!" at Hillsborough County Animal Services, 440 N. Falkenburg Road - Meet real bats in person and learn about how these helpful creatures live and move around us!  "Bat School" starts at 1 p.m. Come for shelter animal "Trick or Treating!"   Bring dog-bones and other" treats" for pets in kennels, and learn how to teach your pet "tricks" from pro-trainers. Cast your vote for the most "Bat-Tastic" animals in the shelter -- and maybe even take some home!   October is national Adopt-A-Dog month, you know. The shelter opens for adoptions from 11 am - 3:30 pm, with the Kids "Bat-Tastic" Coloring Table at noon and shelter pet "Trick or Treating" from 1:30 - 3 p.m. Admission is free and donations will go to the Florida Bat Conservancy.

4 p.m. at the Florida Aquarium, 701 Channelside Dr. - The Florida Aquarium invites children in costume (and parents too) to trick-or-treat tank to tank and enjoy fun activities. Children ages 11 and younger in costume pay only $2 admission. (There is a limit of four children per adult at this price.) Those 12 and older pay only $12.

6 p.m. Hampton Terrace Pumpkin Parade - Join your neighbors for a howling good time at Lake Roberta in the Historic Hampton Terrace neighborhood. Dress up in costumes and bring your leashed dogs for the parade, which gets started at 6:30 p.m. there will be drinks and treats for the kids.
