Hillsborough Bicycle-Ped Committee Endorses Business Plan To Save Friendship TrailBridge

Bike-Ped Panel Sees Benefits of Starting New Chapter for the TrailBridge.

The committee that focuses on bicycle and pedestrian issues in Hillsborough County had met for nearly two hours before I began talking about the value of a new business report showing the economic viability of the treasured Friendship TrailBridge.

Kevin Thurmon and Ken Cowart crafted the business blueprint to show the Hillsborough County Commissioners that the 2.6-mile Friendship TrailBridge was worth saving. The commissioners were about to vote last month on demolishing the bridge before they gave a reprieve to a group of residents seeking to save the bridge to come up with a business plan.

The commission will take up the issue of the business report in June.

I'm happy to say that the BPAC tonight voted to write a letter supporting the business report to the county commissioners. The letter will point out the economic generator possibilities of having a world-class linear park above the Bay connecting Tampa and St. Petersburg.

The BPAC action capped a day packed with extensive local media coverage of the business plan and the quest to save the TrailBridge. Stay tuned to this Patch blog for more coverage as this issue moves before the county commissioners next month.
