County Commission Meeting on Friendship TrailBridge Changed to June 6
Circle the date -- June 6 is the new Hillsborough County Commission meeting date for Friendship TrailBridge plan discussion.
A plan to give new life to the closed Friendship TrailBridge (FTB) has prompted Hillsborough County officials to change the date for county commission discussion on the hot-button issue.
The new date for county commission discussion is June 6.
The county's public works staff needs more time to review the business blueprint submitted by a group of professionals who seek to create a non-profit group to run a new-and-improved FTB. The non-profit group would engage in a public-private partnership with Hillsborough County. The group who gave the commissioners the business plan on Monday estimates the work to repair the bridge would be $13.7 million.

One angle to consider is that a new-and-improved FTB would enhance bike commuting in Tampa Bay. Would you believe that the city of Tampa's bike-commuting rate ranked number ninth in the country in 2010 out of the 70 most-populated cities in the US?

The League of American Bicyclists compiled this chart and you will see Tampa ranks ninth in its bike-commuting rate: https://public.sheet.zoho.com/public/bikeleague/2000-to-2010-bike-commuters-largest-70-2-1
Also, I plan to be on the radio this afternoon at 3:45 p.m. with JP Peterson on 1010 AM on his sports show to talk about the FTB plans.
