Tampa Police are investigating a homicide that occurred shortly after 3 a.m. Wednesday.
Investigators said a witness heard a gunshot in the area of East Ellicott Street and North Nebraska Avenue. The witness saw the victim stumbling. When he approached, the man fell to the ground.
"The witness tried to flag down cars to help, but no one stopped," Tampa Police spokeswoman Andrea Davis said in a news release.
He rode his bicycle south on Nebraska Avenue to Chelsea Street, where he flagged down an officer. The officer went to the scene and found the victim lying in the street, Davis said.
He called for an ambulance, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene, she said. The victim is 24 years old.* His name has not been released pending the notification of next of kin.
Police set up a search perimeter and K-9 officers tried to track any suspects. At this point, there is no suspect description to release and the investigation is ongoing.
Traffic was closed for a few hours on Nebraska between McBerry Street and Osborne Avenue, but has since reopened.
Anyone with information is asked to please call the Tampa Police Department at 813-231-6130 or Crime Stoppers at 800-873-TIPS.

Coryell was a friendly, loving, kind, and happy person. The fact remains that their is a monster on the loose that need to be captured! Cory' s prior arrest does not compromise that truth and should not be the headline. Coryell will be greatly missed by family and friends. ~ Miss Tashia ~

While the neighborhoods have expended a great deal of effort to curb prostitution on our streets, violent crimes such as this one are far worse. My sympathies to Coryell's family. I hope to see a larger TPD presence along Nebraska avenue in the coming weeks to reduce street crime and restore a sense of safety to the area. If anyone sees anything that looks suspicious, please call the TPD non-emergency number at 813-231-6130. In an emergency, use 911. Also, find out who your local neighborhood watch coordinator is and let them know what you saw; they can use that information to track trends and inform residents.
If you live in Old Seminole Heights, you can also contact the OSHNA Crime Awareness chair at besafe@OldSeminoleHeights.org. I'm sure the other associations have a similar contact point if you happen to live in another.
