Police Searching for Driver in Fatal Hit-and-Run

Bicyclist Michael Swanson died on Sunday.

Tampa Police are asking for the public's help in identifying the driver of a red sedan that hit a bicyclist on Sunday at West Waters Avenue and North Ashley Street.

According to a news release by Officer Sarah Small, the victim was Michael M. Swanson, 55, of 202 W. 101st Ave. He was riding his bicycle across the eastbound lanes of Waters when a red sedan, possibly an early 2000s model, struck him.

Swanson was knocked to the ground but managed to get up and push his bike out of the road. He collapsed there and was rushed to St. Joseph's Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

The driver of the red sedan drove away east on Waters and turned north on Florida Avenue.

Police said it is possible that the driver was not aware that he struck Swanson.
